Michael Vaughan Advocates a 3-Month Exclusive Window for Test Cricket Annually

For the first paced time, T20 cricket is immensely popular among the audience. This craze led the nations to organize their T20 leagues. Fans enjoy the thrills of the shortest format of cricket. In that situation, Test cricket is facing some challenges. Fans are losing interest in the longest format of cricket. Recently, the former English player Michael Vaughan made a call on Test cricket’s future.

Challenges for Test Cricket:

Test cricket is the oldest and the most authentic format of cricket. This format is facing challenges. Players are losing interest in playing the longest format of cricket. In T20 cricket, money is a big thing. Players are attracted to that and Test cricket is suffering from that. Recently, South Africa announced a new team for the Test series against the New Zealand team because senior players were interested in playing in their T20 league. That created a lot of controversy.

ICC is trying hard to make Test cricket alive. They started the World Test Championship. After the tournament started, cricket-playing nations are paying a little more attention to the longest format of cricket. Ashes is one of the most entertaining series in the Test format. ICC is trying hard to arrange many Test series.

Michael Vaughan’s Words:

As the Test format is facing a lot of troubles, former England player Michael Vaughan talked about Test cricket’s future. He said, “A 3 month dedicated window for Test cricket every year for both the men & women’s teams is the only way to protect the greatest format .. no other cricket but Test around those 3 months .. the other 9 months for all the leagues ICC events.”

India and England are scheduled to meet in a five-match Test series on Indian soil. The first Test match of the series will take place at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad on January 22. Ben Stokes and Co. are ready to face challenges in the Indian conditions. On Indian soil, England’s record is not great in recent days.

England faced setbacks in their recent Test series in India, losing 0-4 in 2016/17 and 1-3 in 2020/21. Yet, they triumphed in 2012/13, winning 2-1 against the hosts. The see-saw battles continue.
