Lockdown lifted at San Jose high school

(KRON) — Yerba Buena High School was placed on lockdown Friday after someone made threats directed toward the school, the San Jose Police Department said.

Students and teachers stayed inside locked classrooms while police officers searched the school’s campus. Students told KRON4 that their teachers locked classroom doors because of a bomb threat.

After the campus was declared safe, the lockdown and shelter-in-place were lifted before 1:30 p.m. Police coordinated with East Side Union High School District officials to share information with parents and the surrounding area.

ESUHSD said an “unidentified person” made threats toward Yerba Buena High School’s campus at 11:05 a.m. “Administrators and staff immediately called 911 and the San Jose Police Department arrived promptly and conducted an investigation. At 1:15 PM after a thorough and comprehensive investigation by SJPD, the campus was deemed safe,” school district officials wrote.

“Our first concern is always for the safety and well-being of our students, their families, and staff. We value our ongoing partnership with SJPD, our community, and our staff in helping us maintain safe and secure campuses,” district officials wrote.
