Against the backdrop of the Israel-Hamas war, a video of missiles is being circulated on social media with the claim that Hezbollah released the footage of their anti-ship missiles. Hezbollah is an Iran-backed Lebanese outfit. At present, tensions at the Lebanon border are escalating as the fight between Hezbollah and Israel continues to rage. The Lebanese group’s leader Syed Hassan Nasrallah addressed the group’s followers on November 3 on the Israel-Hamas war for the first time since the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel.
X (formerly Twitter) Blue user and American political commentator Jackson Hinkle (@jacksonhinklle) shared the video mentioned above on November 6 with the following caption: “🚨🇱🇧🇺🇸 Hezbollah published footage of their anti-ship missiles as US carrier groups sit in the Eastern Mediterranean.” The tweet has received over 8 Lakh views and has been retweeted over 3,400 times. Belarusian media outlet NEXTA (@nexta_tv) also posted the same clip with a similar claim on X. The tweet has received over 7 Lakh views and has been retweeted over 400 times. (Archive)
Several other users shared the same video on X and Facebook with the above claims.
Fact Check
After breaking down the video into several key-frames we ran a reverse image search on some of them. We found a Twitter thread posted on August 16, 2019, by a user named Yuri Lyamin (@imp_navigator). The third tweet in the thread carries the same video that is viral now. The caption accompanying the video said: “Video with C-704”. C-704 is an anti-ship missile developed by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.

We also came across a news report by Canadian digital newspaper La Presse. The report dates back to August 16, 2019, it carried a screengrab from the viral video. As per the report, the clip was shared by Hezbollah on August 15, 2019, showing five anti-ship missiles same as those used in the 2006 Lebanon war. The report further mentioned that Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah gave a televised speech on the occasion of the anniversary of their “victory” over Israel. We also noticed that the missiles have the Hezbollah logo imprinted on them.
Hence, it is clear that while the footage might be of missiles belonging to the Lebanese political group Hezbollah, the viral video is three years old. It is not related to the ongoing war in Gaza or the unrest on the Lebanon border.
