Harry Bentley’s future remains in limbo after Jockey Club stewards again adjourned their inquiry into the British rider’s “potential disciplinary matter”.
The drawn-out hearing, which began at Happy Valley on Monday morning, was first adjourned late on Monday afternoon after a marathon initial sitting before resuming on Tuesday afternoon and running into the early evening.
While there has still been no confirmation from the Jockey Club regarding the matter with which the inquiry is dealing, veteran trainer Dennis Yip Chor-hong’s presence during Monday’s session added an additional layer of intrigue.
It is unclear exactly when stewards will resume their inquiry, with the Happy Valley races set to take place on Wednesday, and the official line is that proceedings have been “adjourned to a date to be fixed”.

Bentley has been stood down from riding in all races, barrier trials and trackwork since Friday last week.
He forfeited seven rides at Sha Tin on Sunday and will be absent from Wednesday night’s nine-race Happy Valley programme. With so much uncertainty around what the stewards’ next move will be, it is hard to see the 31-year-old riding at Sha Tin this weekend.
The prolonged hearing has put the skids on what was a strong start to the season for Bentley, with the Englishman compiling seven wins to sit eighth in the jockeys’ premiership.
Bentley has been a member of the Hong Kong jockeys’ roster since April 2021, when he arrived in the city as the winner of two Group One events – one in France and one in the United Kingdom – and six consecutive riders’ championships in Qatar.
