Australian golf royalty Adam Scott has announced he’s coming home to play the two major tournaments next month.

The 43-year-old is the latest big-name star confirmed in the field for the Australian PGA Championship and the Australian Open, both to be broadcast on Nine and 9Now.

The PGA Championship will be played at Royal Queensland in Brisbane from November 23, and the Open will be held at The Australian and The Lakes in Sydney from November 30.

Scott joins 2022 British Open champion and former world No.2 Cameron Smith in the fields, as well as PGA Tour professionals and rising Aussie stars Min Woo Lee and Cam Davis.

Smith won last year’s Australian PGA Championship in a triumphant homecoming to Queensland, much to the delight of the massive crowds.

Scott came close to winning his second Australian Open, finishing second behind Poland’s Adrian Meronk in Melbourne.

It was his third runner-up finish at his home Open. He finished second in 2013 and 2015.

When announcing he’ll be playing at both Australian tournaments, Scott signalled his intention to take both out.

“Generally I’m pretty comfortable where my game’s at, although obviously not really being close enough or contending enough in major tournaments this year for my liking,” he told media on Tuesday.

“There’s always lots of moving parts going on, certainly in the game of professional golf at the moment, but like I said I feel like my game’s generally in a good spot and I’ll be coming home with confidence and I’d like to win both of these events to be perfectly honest.

“I was close last year in the Aussie Open and I’ve been close so many times in the Aussie Open so I definitely have a bit of unfinished business there.

“Winning a PGA at RQ (Royal Queensland) where I’ve been a member since 11 years old would be pretty sweet as well. I’m really looking forward to getting home and playing some golf and also just being at home again.”

The 2013 US Masters winner is among an exclusive group of players to have an Australian Open and PGA Championship trophy to his name. He won the PGA in 2013 and in 2019, while losing in a playoff in 2014.

Scott won the 2009 Open by five shots at NSW Golf Club.

“Having Adam as part of the Australian summer of golf always adds to the anticipation ahead of our two major tournaments,” Golf Australia boss James Sutherland said.

“Adam is a world-class player and is a threat in any tournament he contests. We are delighted that he has once again committed to play here this summer.”

Scott is the highest earning Australia golfer ever on the PGA Tour, having amassed just shy of US$63 million and 14 tournament wins since joining in 2003.
