First In: Aguamadera, Ibiza, hotel review

À la carte breakfast is charming in its simplicity, framed by the stark beauty of Sarah Jerath’s bowls, plates and other pieces, organic and imperfect. These broken, asymmetrical shapes – which you will notice from the first cup of coffee – are everywhere, and the effect is perfect.

Wellness

A spontaneous chat by the pool with AzUL, one of the owners, helped us understand what wellness means for Aguamadera – listening to the silence in order to listen to ourselves, wandering along the paths of the estate at dawn, going down to the nearby coves before anyone else for a refreshing swim.

The hotel offers specific holistic wellness proposals such as ceremonies, storytelling, soul reading and energy work. Other private services such as fitness with personal trainers, breathing exercises, sound healing and therapeutic massages are available on request.

Sustainability and accessibility

In addition to the permaculture garden, Aguamadera has beehives, which are the source of the natural wax candles used in the hotel. The main air conditioning comes from geothermal energy, there is a waste control plan in place, as well as a saltwater pool, and the use of natural resources is optimised.

Given its location on a mountain with steep rocky slopes, it might not be the best place for people with reduced mobility. However, the team will do their best to facilitate access and answer any questions you may have.

Anything left to mention?

Aguamadera Ibiza will be open all year round, and that means one more step, a giant leap, for the longed-for deseasonalization of the Balearic Islands. In the face of the excesses of mass tourism, there is nothing like turning places with such a mild climate and sunny days into happy winter quarters. The plan here is to generate a community around the hotel: specific yoga courses, artistic gatherings, weekend detox plans… endless excuses for the pleasure of experiencing Ibiza’s off-season magic.
