Jasprit Bumrah picked up his fourth six-wicket haul as India finished day two of the second test against England in a commanding position on Saturday.
Bumrah took 6-45 – including an absolutely perfect yorker to England’s first Test hero Ollie Pope – as the tourists were rolled for 253 in the first innings.
India had finished with 396 runs in its first innings thanks to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s maiden test double hundred. Jaiswal scored 209 runs and was 15 not out in India’s second innings at stumps on day two.

Skipper Rohit Sharma was with him, unbeaten on 13 runs. India will resume 0-28 on day three with a 171-runs lead.
Earlier, England reached 0-32 at lunch and continued scoring quickly after the break.
Zak Crawley led the charge as he smacked 76 off 78 balls, including 11 fours and two sixes. He put on 59 off 62 balls for the first wicket, as also 55 runs off 73 balls with Ollie Pope (23) for the second wicket.
Duckett was out caught at silly point off Kuldeep Yadav, who was playing his first test since December 2022.
The scoring rate stayed high with Indian bowlers — including Bumrah — getting stick from Crawley. Axar Patel (1-24) got the much-needed breakthrough – Crawley went for the cut but was caught well at backward point by Shreyas Iyer.
England was 2-114 at that time and it opened the door for Bumrah.
He began with Joe Root, who was caught at slip for five in the 26th over. Two overs later, Pope was bowled.
At tea, England was 4-155 and lost Jonny Bairstow almost immediately on resumption of play. He was caught at slip, again off Bumrah.
England was down to 6-172 as Yadav bowled Ben Foakes for six runs. Four overs later, he also dismissed Rehan Ahmed (6), finishing with 3-71 in 17 overs.
The visitors had lost six wickets for 68 runs, before Ben Stokes played a rescuing hand. He scored 47 off 54 balls, including five fours and a six.

More importantly, he put on 47 off 42 balls for the eighth wicket with Tom Hartley, who made 21 runs.
Bumrah returned to bowl Stokes, not quite a yorker, but the ball stayed low. He mopped up the tail then, accounting for Hartley and James Anderson.
Overall, it was his 10th five-wicket haul in test cricket as Bumrah also went past 150 wickets.
It was Bumrah’s best bowling figures on home soil, having previously taken 5-24 against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru.
In the morning session, Anderson finished with 3-47 as India added 60 runs from its overnight 6-336.
Jaiswal guided the lower order well and reached his first test double hundred off 277 balls, celebrating in style in front of a Saturday morning crowd.
It was the third fastest double hundred in tests against England, after West Indies’ Gordon Greenidge (232 balls) in 1984 and Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya (254 balls) in 1998.
England has a 1-0 lead in the five-test series, after winning the first test in Hyderabad by 28 runs.
