This year’s Chanukah celebration on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica was one of the biggest in Los Angeles, with a focus on unity and support for Israel. The event, hosted by CTeen Santa Monica and featuring a grand menorah lighting and concert, was held on Thursday, Dec. 7 in a time that is marked by increasing challenges for the Jewish community.
The evening commenced with arts and crafts, face painting, and balloon-making for children, hot latkes and a captivating juggling show, and later on a concert by Chassidic rock band Eighth Day. The celebration aimed to bring together people of all backgrounds to show Jewish pride and solidarity with Israel.

At 6 p.m., a special children’s prayer for Israel was held, complemented by a speech from the incoming mayor of Santa Monica, Phil Brock. Rabbi Isaac Levitansky of Chabad in Santa Monica led the grand menorah lighting, symbolizing the community’s commitment “to spread light in times of darkness,” the organizers said.
Organizers added that the event “aligned with a noticeable trend in Los Angeles” in which families are displaying their menorahs prominently.
“In the face of adversity, our community is choosing to stand tall and shine brightly,” said Rabbi Menachem Levitansky of CTeen Santa Monica, in a prepared statement. “This Chanukah, we celebrate not just a historical miracle but the ongoing resilience and unity of our community.”
