The Ariel Atom is coming to Australia!
British lightweight sportscar manufacturer Ariel Motor Company has announced it has partnered with Road and Track to be its official dealer in Australia and New Zealand.
The Ariel Atom 4 two-seater sports car has now been certified for road use in Australia and the companies have confirmed a total of 50 examples will be produced for our market.
The starting price is $179,990 before on-road costs and deliveries will commence in 2024.
With over 4000 expressions of interest for the Ariel Atom 4 in Australia, Road and Track has engaged the company EQL to run a “RunFair” raffle that’s claimed to give every “Ariel enthusiast an equal chance of allocation”. This “RunFair” raffle will be drawn on September 29.
Prospective Australian buyers who are successfully drawn will be asked to pay a $10,000 deposit to secure the allocated build slot.
Each Atom 4 example will be customised and tailored to each buyer’s requests, with an “extensive list of options” available. Upon completing the specification of the order, a further 30 per cent deposit is required.
The Ariel Atom 4 is powered by a Honda-sourced 2.0-litre ‘K20C’ turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 239kW of power and 420Nm of torque.
This mated to a six-speed manual transmission with drive sent to the rear wheels exclusively.
Ariel claims the Atom 4 can do the 0-60mph (0-97km/h) sprint in 2.8 seconds, and the 0-100mph (0-161km/h) sprint in 6.8 seconds. Flat out you’ll be doing 261km/h.
The Atom 4 measures in at 3520mm long, 1880mm wide, and 1122mm tall, with a 2390mm wheelbase. It also weighs in at just 595kg.
There are 16-inch front and 17-inch cast alloy wheels at the front and rear, respectively. These are wrapped in 195/50 R16 and 255/40 R17 tyres, respectively.
Providing the stopping power are a set of two-piston calipers at the front with 278mm ventilated discs, as well as two-piston calipers at the rear with 253mm discs.
Inside the Atom 4 comes with two individual composite race seats with five-position adjustment, as well as four-point quick-release harnesses.
Other interior features include a suede-wrapped steering wheel, parking brake, and a TFT colour digital display.
The Ariel Atom 4 is the fourth iteration of the iconic lightweight sports car that dates all the way back to 1999. This latest iteration was first revealed in 2018.
Looking beyond this initial Australian allocated of 50 Ariel Atom 4s, Road and Track says it’s “anticipating new models to replace the Atom 4 and Nomad”. It expects to make further announcements during 2024.
