The concert by AR Rahman took place on September 10 at Chennai’s Adityaram Palace. Almost 45,000 people attended the ACTC Events-organised concert.
Rahman posted a four-minute video of the Chennai concert on his X (previously Twitter) and Instagram profiles on September 24. In the video, his crew had turned off the comments. Nonetheless, Rahman received criticism for it. Several criticised him for his “tone-deafness” and “insensitivity” and questioned the timing of the video.
The performance by AR Rahman was scheduled for August 12. But, because of the bad weather, the concert was postponed at the last minute. It was moved to September 10 as the new date. The event, which was billed as India’s largest concert, drew more than 45,000 attendees.
Unfortunately, many people did not enjoy the event in Chennai. Tambaram police opened an investigation into accusations of crowd control issues and harassment. Following an investigation, the police filed two portions of a case against ACTC Events. The staff of AR Rahman has been contacting those who were unable to access the stadium despite having legitimate tickets in the meantime. The director of ACTC Events, Hemanth Raja, posted a video in which he apologised for all the trouble and offered a refund.
